I’ve read people claiming leadership is now dead, and it’s the time of the team.
They then go on to promote their expertise in team building.
I say “What a load of bull - - it!”
At worst, formal leadership may be absent in team, unsatisfactorily replaced by haphazard informal leadership and group-think.
Teams need effective leadership to reliably form, survive the storming, normalise then perform their purpose.
Consensus and democracy are not necessarily prerequisites for team success.
Various effective styles of leadership are needed to meet the diversity of attitudes, behaviours, competencies and task complexity.
To say that leadership is no longer necessary and is dead, is not only dumb, but also dangerous.
What do you think?
