As a newly appointed leader, you have an obligation to earn trust and respect prior to being effective as the leader. The quicker you do that the quicker you can become effective.
You won’t gain it quickly by being a know-it-all hero. You won’t gain it quickly by becoming popular.
You’ll gain it by being courageous in your vulnerability.
Your willingness to admit to not knowing; your capability to be wrong; your willingness to ask for input and really consider it; your willingness to learn; your humility in being their leader and recognising their value – those attributes will earn you trust and respect faster than being the know-it-all hero who is always right and has all the answers.
Where are you in that continuum?
