How often do you have thoughts that make you feel things you don’t want to feel?

Like being angry, frustrated, worried or helpless?

Those feelings are caused by your automatic thoughts about what’s happening, or has happened, or might happen, aren’t they?

If you act in response to those thoughts and their feelings, what could happen?

They won’t be the best actions, will they?

Instead, what would happen if you command your thoughts to be of a better quality – positive, useful and true.

No matter what is happening, or has or might happen, there is always positive, useful and true thinking that will help you deal more effectively with the situation.

All you need do is ask yourself these questions:

  1. What can I truly not control?

Those are the things you accept and let go of, because they are beyond your reach.

  1. What can I truly control?

Those are the things you pay attention to, in a way that works.

Here’s that way:

  1. Become calm and centred, otherwise you can’t think straight.
  2. What thoughts are positive, useful and true about this?
  3. What actions will deliver me the best way forward?
  4. What help do I need?

Act now on the answers to those questions and remember to ask yourself whether, if you take best thought out action, will all this matter in a year from now?

All this comes from Attitudinal Competence.

What do you think?
