It feels almost like a global experience – traditional democratic governments are faltering, and tyrannical governments are breaking down.
The governments of the United Kingdom, United States and even Australia are stuck unable to cope with the blocking by parties who cannot win government in their own right.
The tyrannical governments elsewhere are facing the wrath of the people, even civil war.
The internet and social media have made communication instantaneous, enabling the masses from all over the planet to at least cause “decision-reluctance” in government.
It might also be that these forms of government have simply had their day and need disruptive change.
Why do we need parties? Why can’t we have the best ideas from anywhere accepted? Why can’t we vote cheaply with our fingerprints or biometric identification online?
Why must we spend so much tax payer money on ancient systems of government that haven’t really evolved, when everything else has?
Why are we keeping so much that is redundant in place at such high cost?
Is it the vested interests of those dependent upon the redundant for their continued livelihood?
Is it that we don’t yet know what to create next to replace the redundant?
I accept there is no easy or quick solution, and we are hard wired to take drastic action at the eleventh hour, evidenced by how we are dealing with human-caused climate change and how we are ignoring or denying the threat of global overpopulation.
Political parties; parliamentary process; our inability to have useful adult evidence-based conversations; reluctance to alter the status quo; fear habits and ignorance; cultural and religious beliefs; tribalism and our overriding personal agendas are all holding us back.
We need to change at all levels and we need strong, caring, wise, statesman-like leadership for that to happen.
