So much is expected of leaders.
After all they have accepted the role and the rewards of stewardship of the values, the vision, the people and the results.
With such high stakes the effective leader must have a variety of traits to handle the complexities and uncertainties of the territory. Yet there is one trait that is the precursor of all the others.
The ability to look inwards before looking outwards.
That means being able to ask and honestly answer this question “In what way am I a part of the cause?”
Only then can the leader either acknowledge what works or address what doesn’t work and expect to be effectively heard.
It requires self awareness and courage.
