Is This Our Greatest Personal Challenge?

Our automatic thoughts come from our early programming.

We act on them without pause.

We often regret them and wish we’d thought more before acting.

They are the source of our anger and arrogance, or our submission and silence.

They occur because there’s no gap between mind and mouth.

We listen to defend, pontificate or argue, instead of listening to understand or simply be curious.

We forget that when we are talking we are not learning unless we are asking a question to understand.

We make judgements and assumptions and make them facts when they are not.

The work I do on myself and the work I do with my clients, ultimately boils down to this simple question:

“What am I thinking and is it useful?”

How do you deal with your thoughts?
