Dealing with ‘Sacred Cows’ in the Workplace

April 21, 2015

Blog Topic

Most businesses that have been operating for any length of time have ‘sacred cows’ – those people, attitudes, equipment, issues or systems that never get fairly challenged, critiqued or corrected.

Often they are protected due to misguided loyalties, fear, habits or just plain not knowing how to deal with them without risk.

There is often a significant cost of doing nothing about them, not just in monetary terms, but in terms of employee engagement, morale and respect for the leadership.

Where these circumstances exist, it is ideal that external intervention be sought to facilitate resolution.

Experienced external facilitation can bring objectivity, methodology and protection of reputations, not only for the people seeking to deal with the sacred cows, but also for people who may be at cause or party to keeping the sacred cows in place.

Approached in the right way, experienced external facilitation will deliver timely resolution with minimal risk to the business and the people in it. The return on investment is significant.
