The Secret to Enterprise Productivity

Improving productivity is high on the leaders’ agenda.

Scholarly and practical articles alike focus on the productivity outcome created by the relationship between inputs and outputs, debating only what inputs and outputs to measure.

What are measured mainly are financial and product or service data.

I think they are missing the secret reality.

There are four basic requirements to gain anything worthwhile from an enterprise:

  • Effective leadership who provide compelling and lived values, a compelling vision and goals; and the right kind of leadership needed in the moment (situational leadership).
  • Engaged employees who are in the right position, have clarity of purpose, are competent and motivated.
  • Because of the above, teams are striving toward Performance Mastery – becoming the best they can be.
  • Because of the three preceding qualities, they are also striving for Innovation Mastery - -improving and enhancing their service or their product offerings.

When those four pillars are in place, all else, primarily productivity is possible.

That’s because all the other requirements that get measure, stem from those four pillars.

Without them – productivity remains elusive. So does customer experience and sustainable growth and profitability.
