He’d had enough.
There was too much bureaucracy and costs coming from his HR department and he couldn’t see a return on investment from what they were doing.
So he did this, honourably and efficiently:
- Closed down his HR department.
- Kept one HR person to manage records and ensure compliance – there are software systems that made that easy.
- Made his line managers at all levels responsible for the engagement of their people.
- Got rid of the dreaded performance management system - it didn’t add value, at least not the way it was designed and being used.
- Began developing his leaders to be leaders not just managers and box tickers.
