Thanks for being here today for your business learning opportunity!
Today we're going to look at why your effective leadership is so crucial.
If we were to recognise that the Holy Grail for business is in fact sustainable growth and profit, and by that, I mean not just simply growing for the sake of growing, or growing from the organisation that you have now, that you might be very happy with In terms of its size, but growing in other areas.
Growing in product capability, or service capability; cost efficiency. Improvement in your systems. They are all items of growth. And of course, profit.
So, the Holy Grail is Sustainable Growth and Profit.
Now let’s work backward from that and see why your leadership is so crucial.
So, let’s look at this timeline, where the end goal is sustainable growth and profit.
What needs to be there immediately before we know we’ve achieved that?
What is the epitome of success to give us this growth and profit?
OK, let’s agree that it is in fact Delighted Customers.
And along with those will be Satisfied Stakeholders. These are your bankers, the media, your suppliers, and indeed your community.
Now, what do we need to achieve before we can get to satisfied stakeholders and delighted customers?
Well, I put it to you that it needs to be Evolving Quality Productivity. Our productivity needs to be such that it’s always keeping up with the market needs, that it’s getting better, that’s quality, both in terms of the actual product itself and the service that we deliver, and of course the cost effectiveness of how we do that.
Now what do we need to achieve before we can get to this level of evolving quality productivity?
Well, I put it to you it’s Innovation Mastery. We need to be continuously innovating. We need to be able to improve all the time. And we will call that innovation. We are living in those times where innovation is a necessity, not just an ideal.
Now in order for us to be able to create innovation mastery, before that, we must in fact have Performance Mastery. We need to be able to do what we are doing already well, before we can move on to innovate.
Now in order to get to the point of Performance Mastery, there’s a very essential requirement. And that requirement is Employee Engagement. Our people need to be able to give their best, to willing go the extra mile, to actually enjoy being at work, being delighted with what they do, and of their own accord, they want to be willing to be the best they can be.
Now in order for us to have employees like that, there is no other shortcut, other than to have Effective Leadership.
So that effective leadership is the ultimate cause of employee engagement, which delivers performance mastery and innovation mastery, which then enables us to evolve quality productivity, which delivers us both satisfied stakeholders and delighted customers. Ultimately giving us the Holy Grail - sustainable growth and profit.
So, it really means this - without your effective leadership, you’ll have none of the above.
That’s how important your role, as the leader of your business, is.
